Sitting down to watch The Language of the Future for the first time, I hadn't read any of the "lyrics" yet, however, being familiar with Laurie Anderson I knew it was going to take more than one attempt to complete the video without navigating my browser elsewhere. And after multiple attempts I still have not completed watching the entire video not just because of the poor sound quality. I get it… but I don't really have any sense appreciation for it as a work of art. Her robot voice is funny, though, I think she was hoping to be more prophetic and witty than I interpreted her to be(this seems to be my problem with art in general). Instead of enjoying the content, I found myself becoming frustrated as she worried about her particular annunciation of each word. My biggest point of disinterest is that I am living in her future, the one she is talking about, so I cannot grasp the ideas she's trying to get across; I can't see it from her point of view. Despite all of this, I sort of chuckled a little when she said:
"Your Captain says: Please do not panic.
Your Captain says: Place your head in your hands.
Captain says: Place your head on your knees.
Captain says: Put your hands on your head. Put your hands on your knees! (heh-heh)"
Nice one heh-heh.
